The new Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation at the University of California, Berkeley is a building for makers. At once an academic building and community space, the building is filled with tools, labs and equipment for courses, academic clubs and individual exploration. A generous planting featuring California natives flows down the northern slope, highlighting the open, transparent façade. Additional outdoor spaces include a passageway connecting multiple halls and break space inviting collaboration among the Berkeley community. The project is LEED-certified to the Platinum level.
