In collaboration with the campus planner, campus architect, and UC Regents, CLA has developed a comprehensive master plan for the next University of California campus. The vision for UC Merced is a center of collaborative research addressing the pressing needs of the global future, including issues of environmental sustainability and human health. The campus master plan reflects this forward thinking by embracing sustainable approaches to building, cutting-edge green energy technologies, and a dense urban texture. The plan establishes a strong relationship with the existing town such that the educational and civic facilities grow in concert to realize the goal of an international destination university. The master plan takes these important concepts and carefully integrates them into a design sensitive to the existing site.

Along with the campus master plan CLA has developed a set of design guidelines. Together these documents establish the character and unique qualities of the growing university and ensure that the physical form of the campus fosters the ideals and ambitions of UC Merced.
