Bauer Schweitzer Housing

Nestled in 62 acres of oak covered rolling hills in Sonoma County, Three Bridges was to provide a continuing life care community for 650 senior residents including an international learning center, a town hall/community building, library, fitness and wellness center and three dining facilities.

CLA was part of the original master plan team that prepared the documents for the program and entitlement of the property for annexation and approval of the life care` program stated above. Mr. Lowe of CLA was selected by the client group to be their director of design to coordinate all phases of design with the design team and client. The primary architectural group was SMP and BAR Architects, and ZAC Landscape Architects.

The approach was to preserve the natural ridge top as the primary open space and center of the community. Homes are clustered on the hillside, never rising above the ridgeline, and oriented to prevailing breezes. The architecture was about creating spaces that promote a healthy relationship among the community, working within the lay of the land, and using sustainable materials where possible.
