Cliff Lowe Associates was invited by Millenium Partners to provide construction documentation and construction observation services for this 35,000 square feet public plaza. One of our roles as designers of public spaces was to provide universal accessibility between Mission Street, the New Contemporary Jewish Museum, St. Patrick’s Church, and the Four Seasons Hotel. In addition, the plaza, built in a dense urban environment over an existing public parking garage, provides a sensible open space connection to the Yerba Buena Gardens across Mission Street, and serves as a resting and gathering place to a wider range of pedestrian public, not limited to museum visitors. In the future, it will also function as a forecourt to the new Mexican Museum.

The plaza features low, terraced water fountain with inset pebbles, large lawn areas with wood benches, exposed aggregate concrete paving with accent stone insets, and a row of Gingko trees providing shade canopy to the outdoor eating area.
